Travel
Several airlines have direct flights into Milan and Rome from New York. We hope you can use our wedding as a catalyst for a fun European vacation and consider exploring other European cities while you’re on this side of the pond.
We have found it much easier in terms of making a connection, if you try and make your last flight transfer in the U.S. rather than in a European city.
For example MSP-> JFK and then JFK -> Milan or Rome (final destination) will be more efficient than something like MSP -> Amsterdam -> Milan/Rome.
Rome is about a 3-hour train ride from Milan for those planning to do other international travel!
Passport tip: Please check your passports in the coming months! Many European countries will not allow you to enter the country if you passport expires within three months of your arrival date.
Flight Routes:
JFK - Milan (Delta, Emirates and more)
NWK- Milan (Delta, Emirates and more)
JFK - Rome (Delta, Italy Airways and Norse)
ORD - Milan (United)
ATL - Rome (Delta)
ATL - Milan (Delta)
MSP - CDG- Milan (Delta and other for connection)
MSP - JFK - Milan (Delta and other)
Getting to Como:
You can reach the lake by train, ferry boat or car. We highly recommend researching the mode of transportation that best fits your itinerary prior to arrival.
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS:
We feel it important to note that Uber and Lyft are not available within Lago di Como - and taxis are few and far between. The primary mode of transportation is ferry or traditional taxi. This is extra important if you are considering an AirBnB not in a city/town as you will be heavily limiting your available modes of transportation.
Ground Transportation to Lake Como from Milan:
-
If you choose to hire a car service, there are sprinter vans that hold up to 6/7 passengers and are generally about 239 - 300 Euro one way / 35-45 Euro per person.
-
Will and I have previously used the train as well as a car service all and if you chose to use the train, please double check various train schedules. If you take a train to Como you can pre arrange a taxi to your hotel or book a car transfer through your hotel directly.
-
For those traveling by train: Once you arrive in Como, Bellagio or Lenno you will likely need to take the ferry depending on your accommodations. (Please check the ferry schedules before you embark to your final destination.) Ferry tickets can be purchased when you arrive at the port.
Where to Stay?
Hotels: Further Hotel/Accommodation Information to come: Many hotels in Italy do not open reservations until roughly ten months out. We will plan to notify all guests when more information on this is available, but please feel free to also check back in to the site at any time.
AirBNB: If you are considering an AirBnb for your stay, please be very mindful of some important cautions/considerations:
Lake Como, and the general area around Lake Como including the cities/towns on the lake, are almost entirely inaccessible via Ubers. Taxi’s and car services are often difficult find/confirm & also expensive, but can be requested in advance with appropriate planning.
Our goal is to facilitate transportation to the wedding events from one or more central locations, most likely near the recommended hotels which are currently TBD. Please take this into consideration if you plan to look into AirBnB’s.
Hotels and stays on the water are more easily accessible. Many AirBnB’s are situated on quite a steep hill set behind main roads and this may be difficult to navigate in formal wear.
If you are curious about AirBnB, please reach out to Ally or Will and we’d be happy to help you think through if they’re a good option for you.
